Descripción

This is a monopodial, epiphytic orchid native to the cloud forests of the Mashpi region in Ecuador, an area known for its high biodiversity. This species was described by the research team of Ecuagenera.

  • Light: Provide bright, filtered or diffused light, simulating the forest canopy (approximately 70% shade). Intense direct sunlight must be strictly avoided to prevent damage.
  • Temperature: This species thrives in Intermediate-Cool conditions, typical of cloud forest altitudes. The ideal temperature range is 55-75°F (13-24°C), requiring a distinct drop in temperature at night.
  • Humidity: High ambient humidity (70-90%) is crucial, due to its need for cool, moist air. Constant and strong air movement is essential to prevent infections.
  • Watering: As it lacks pseudobulbs to store water, the substrate must be kept uniformly moist at all times, but never soggy. Excellent drainage is required to prevent root rot.

Additional Notes

This genus is characterized by its fan-shaped leaves and its conspicuous, striking flowers, usually single-stemmed (uniflora). The basal lobes of the lip typically fully or partially envelop the flower's column.
