Información

Barfussia wagneriana

Barfussia wagneriana (formerly known as Tillandsia wagneriana) is a rare and striking bromeliad from the Bromeliaceae family, native to the humid forests of South America. A recently reclassified genus, Barfussia represents some of the most spectacular tank bromeliads in the family, and wagneriana is a fine example — with bold, arching foliage and the dramatic floral displays characteristic of the group. An intermediate to warm grower that thrives in humid tropical conditions, it is a wonderful addition to any bromeliad collection or tropical garden seeking something genuinely out of the ordinary.

Care Guide

  • Light: Bright indirect light to partial shade. Good light encourages vibrant foliage color and promotes flowering, but avoid harsh direct midday sun.
  • Temperature: Intermediate to warm. Thrives between 18–28°C (64–82°F). Protect from frost and prolonged cold.
  • Humidity: Moderate to high humidity of 50–70% suits this bromeliad well, reflecting its origins in humid tropical forests.
  • Watering: Keep the central tank (rosette cup) filled with fresh water, refreshing it regularly to prevent stagnation. Water the substrate moderately, allowing it to dry slightly between waterings.
  • Soil: A loose, well-draining bromeliad or epiphyte mix is ideal. It can also be grown mounted or in a basket.

Rare, recently reclassified, and botanically fascinating, Barfussia wagneriana is a collector's bromeliad with genuine character — grown with expertise at Ecuagenera and offered in excellent condition for enthusiasts who appreciate the extraordinary diversity of the Bromeliaceae family.
