Información

Sphyrospermum sodiroi

A rare epiphytic species from the cloud forests of Ecuador, belonging to the family Ericaceae. It produces alternate, elliptic leaves with a semi-matte surface and fine punctate texture along pubescent, scrambling stems — bearing distinctive ovoid tubular flowers with hairy sepals on a trailing epiphytic habit.

  • Light: Bright indirect light with 50–70% shade cloth; avoid direct sun, which can scorch the delicate leaves and damage the flowers.
  • Temperature: 55–72°F (13–22°C); a cool to intermediate grower that performs best with stable, mild temperatures and good air circulation.
  • Humidity: 75–90%; very high humidity is essential for healthy stem and flower development.
  • Watering: Keep the substrate evenly moist but never waterlogged; the fine root system is sensitive to both drought and saturation.

Additional Notes

Offered as a well-established plant of approximately 30 cm, grown from verified species material collected in Ecuador. Sphyrospermum sodiroi is shipped bare root and is best mounted or grown in a hanging basket with a loose, well-draining epiphytic mix.
