Descripción

A compact, caespitose epiphyte from Andean cloud forests, bearing dense, brush-like clusters of tiny flowers with a strongly hooded dorsal sepal, concave connate lateral sepals, and highly reduced petals. The successive inflorescences emerge directly from the base of the erect, lanceolate leaves, creating a characteristic bristling display that gives this species its name.

  • Light: Bright indirect light with 50–70% shade cloth; avoid direct sun, which can scorch the thin foliage.
  • Temperature: 50–68°F (10–20°C); a Cool to Intermediate grower. Tolerates brief dips to 45°F (7°C) if kept dry.
  • Humidity: 70–90%; mist regularly or place on a humidity tray to maintain consistent moisture around the roots.
  • Watering: Water frequently but allow the mount or medium to approach dryness between waterings; never allow roots to remain waterlogged.

Additional Notes

Best grown mounted on cork or tree fern to accommodate its preference for excellent drainage and air circulation. Plants are shipped bare root and well-established. Grown at Ecuagenera in the cloud forests of Ecuador.
