Descripción

A striking species from the Andean cloud forests, bearing solitary flowers on a broad, fleshy leaf. The widely spreading free lateral sepals display bold striped venation, while a small rounded dorsal sepal forms a neat hood over an elongated, concave synsepal with prominent striping and a small lip with a visible column — a symmetrical and highly ornamental bloom.

  • Light: Bright indirect light with 50–70% shade cloth; avoid direct sun, which can stress the broad, fleshy leaves.
  • Temperature: 50–68°F (10–20°C); a cool to intermediate grower with a minimum tolerance around 45°F (7°C). Cool nights encourage consistent blooming.
  • Humidity: 75–90%; maintain consistently high humidity with good air movement to prevent fungal issues.
  • Watering: Water frequently to keep the root zone evenly moist; avoid prolonged dry periods between waterings.

Additional Notes

Best grown in a small pot with sphagnum or fine bark, or mounted on cork. Thrives under cool, humid conditions typical of high-altitude Andean cloud forests. Shipped bare root, well-established.
