Phragmipedium pearcei Culture:

Successful cultivation of Phragmipedium pearcei. Here are some important cultural tips to ensure its thriving growth:

  • Light: Phragmipedium pearcei prefers bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.
  • Temperature: This orchid enjoys intermediate to warm temperatures. Daytime temperatures should be between 20-27°C (68-80°F), and nighttime temperatures should be between 15-21°C (60-70°F).
  • Humidity: Phragmipedium pearcei thrives in high humidity, around 60-80%. You can achieve this by using humidifiers, misting frequently, or growing it in a humid environment.
  • Watering: Phragmipedium pearcei prefers to be kept consistently moist. Do not allow the potting mix to dry out completely. Ensure proper drainage to prevent root rot.

Additional Notes:

  • It is a terrestrial orchid, meaning it naturally grows in the ground.
  • It prefers warm, humid environments.
  • Good water quality is essential. Use rainwater, reverse osmosis water, or distilled water if possible.

I purchased this Sept 2021. Now after ten months, it send out a spike and is ready for bloom. One drawback is that the tip of the leaf turn to brown.
