Paphiopedilum Quicksilver

An elegant slipper orchid hybrid from the cross between Paph. Silmaril and Paph. Enchanted Orient, combining the refined, well-structured dorsal sepal of its parentage with the smooth, lustrous pouch that gives this hybrid its fluid, mercurial character. A sophisticated addition to any Paphiopedilum collection, offering long-lasting blooms with excellent substance.

• Light: Low to moderate indirect light under 60–70% shade cloth; Paphiopedilums thrive without direct sun, which can scorch their strap-like foliage.
• Temperature: Intermediate to warm grower. Daytime 68–80°F (20–27°C), nighttime lows of 58–65°F (14–18°C); a moderate day-night differential supports healthy growth and flowering.
• Humidity: Prefers 60–75% relative humidity; humidity trays or a humidifier work well, with good air movement to prevent crown rot in the tight leaf axils.
• Watering: Keep the substrate evenly moist at all times; Paphiopedilums lack pseudobulbs and cannot tolerate prolonged drying — water before the mix dries out completely.

Additional Notes

Best grown in a fine to medium bark mix or a blend of perlite and sphagnum moss with excellent drainage; repot every 2 years or when the mix begins to break down to prevent root rot.
