Descripción

Oncidium sphacelatum is a robust epiphytic orchid native to Central and South America, renowned for its spectacular branching flower spikes that can reach impressive lengths. This vigorous species produces masses of bright yellow flowers with distinctive brown markings, creating a stunning cascade of blooms that truly embody the 'dancing lady' orchid reputation.

  • Light: Bright, indirect light with some morning sun. Can tolerate more light than many other orchids.
  • Temperature: Intermediate to warm temperatures between 18-28°C (64-82°F). Tolerates a wide temperature range and benefits from good air circulation.
  • Humidity: Moderate to high humidity levels of 50-70%. Use a humidity tray, humidifier, or group with other orchids to maintain adequate moisture.
  • Watering: Water thoroughly when pseudobulbs show slight wrinkling. Allow good drainage between waterings as this species is sensitive to overwatering.

Additional Notes:

This vigorous grower develops large pseudobulbs and can produce multiple flower spikes simultaneously. The impressive flower displays can last 6-8 weeks and may appear multiple times per year under optimal conditions.
