Descripción

This is a miniature, epiphytic orchid, native to the cloud forests of Ecuador and Colombia, thriving at cool elevations. It is identified by its slender, erect stems that bear a single apical leaf, enveloped by the distinctive lepanthiform sheaths.

  • Light: Place in partial shade or bright, indirect light, always avoiding direct sunlight, which can burn its leaves.
  • Temperature: Cool to intermediate-growing species: optimal 68-77°F (20-25°C) during the day and an essential night drop to 59-68°F (15-20°C).
  • Humidity: Requires high and constant ambient humidity, ideally between 80% and 90%, so it is best cultivated in terrariums or display cases with active humidification.
  • Watering: Keep the growing medium or mount consistently moist, but never saturated, always ensuring excellent drainage; use low-mineral water and allow the surface to dry very slightly between waterings.

Additional Notes

The plant is notable for its tiny, complex flowers that emerge on a short, successive inflorescence at the top of the leaf, presenting the highly specialized system of sepals, petals, and lip, typical of the Lepanthes genus.
