DescripciΓ³n

DescripciΓ³n

A robust reed-stem Epidendrum distinguished by its notably large, sheathing spathes and clusters of richly colored flowers carried atop tall, upright canes that give the plant a commanding presence. Free-flowering and adaptable, it rewards growers with reliable blooming and vigorous growth under intermediate conditions.

  • Light: Bright, indirect light under 40–50% shade cloth; tolerates higher light levels than many orchids, which promotes stronger cane development and more abundant flowering.
  • Temperature: Intermediate grower. Daytime 65–78Β°F (18–26Β°C), nighttime lows of 55–62Β°F (13–17Β°C); a moderate day-night differential encourages consistent blooming.
  • Humidity: Prefers 60–75% relative humidity; humidity trays or a humidifier work well alongside good air circulation to keep canes and roots healthy.
  • Watering: Water thoroughly and allow the mix to approach dryness before the next watering; established plants are more drought-tolerant than many orchids but perform best with consistent moisture.

Additional Notes

Native to Ecuador, Colombia, and Peru at mid-elevation Andean forests between 1,500–2,500 meters. Best grown in a well-draining medium bark mix; repot every 2–3 years when the substrate begins to decompose.
