Información

Epidendrum cleistocoleum

A distinctive sympodial orchid from the cloud forests of South America, producing compact, dense terminal racemes with medium-sized, fleshy flowers featuring broad ovate sepals and petals and a large, velvety-textured lip with a papillose surface. The semi-closed floral structure and leafy bracts interspersed along the rachis give the inflorescence a uniquely layered, sculptural appearance.

  • Light: Bright indirect light with 50–60% shade cloth; avoid direct midday sun, which can scorch the broad leaves.
  • Temperature: 54–72°F (12–22°C); an intermediate-cool grower that appreciates mild days and cool nights with good air movement.
  • Humidity: 75–85%; high humidity supports the fleshy growth habit and promotes consistent flowering.
  • Watering: Water thoroughly and allow the substrate to approach dryness between waterings; avoid prolonged saturation at the roots.

Additional Notes

A species from the cloud forests of South America, best grown in a well-draining bark-based mix. The dense, sculptural inflorescences make it a prized addition to any intermediate-cool collection. Ships bare root, well-established.
