Comparettia ignea

A miniature epiphytic orchid from the cloud forests of Central America, producing slender, arching racemes with several small but striking flowers. Each flower features a broad, rounded labellum and reduced sepals, with a long, curved spur extending behind — a defining structural trait of the genus that gives the flowers their distinctive silhouette.

• Light: Bright indirect light with 50–70% shade cloth; avoid direct sun, which can desiccate the small pseudobulbs and foliage.
• Temperature: 55–75°F (13–24°C); a cool to intermediate grower that benefits from stable, mild temperatures and good air movement.
• Humidity: 70–90%; very high humidity is essential to prevent desiccation of the small root system and pseudobulbs.
• Watering: Keep the mount or medium evenly moist; never allow to dry out completely, as the compact pseudobulbs have limited water storage capacity.

Additional Notes

Comparettia ignea is best grown mounted on cork or tree fern to accommodate its compact, pendant habit and fine root system. Shipped bare root in well-established condition, ready to mount upon arrival.
