Información

Cattleya mossiae

A magnificent species originating from the dense mountain forests of South America, this famous unifoliate epiphyte is celebrated for its highly robust, upright growth habit. It yields impressive, large spring-blooming flowers that feature broad, wavy petals and an exceptionally large, heavily frilled lip, making it an absolute showstopper for any collection.

  • Light: Bright indirect light with 40–60% shade cloth; provide vigorous air movement and avoid direct, unfiltered midday sun.
  • Temperature: 59–79°F (15–26°C); an adaptable intermediate grower that thrives in stable greenhouse or climate-controlled indoor spaces.
  • Humidity: 60–80%; high, consistent humidity levels support optimal vegetative growth and enhance overall bloom longevity.
  • Watering: Water thoroughly when active, allowing the medium to approach dryness between applications, and reduce frequency during the winter rest.

Additional Notes

This large-flowered orchid performs exceptionally well when grown in a coarse, fast-draining bark mix inside a well-ventilated pot or basket. It ships bare root, well established, and should be gently rehydrated at an intermediate temperature prior to potting upon arrival.
