Alocasia baginda 'Silver Dragon'

Alocasia baginda 'Silver Dragon'

Alocasia baginda 'Silver Dragon' is one of the most enchanting and sought-after tropical plants in the collector's world. Native to the rainforests of Borneo, this intermediate to warm-growing species from the Araceae family is instantly recognizable by its thick, almost reptilian leaves — pale silvery-green with a raised, dragon scale-like texture and dark green veining that creates a mesmerizing, three-dimensional pattern across the entire blade. Compact, slow-growing, and utterly captivating, it is a true jewel of the Alocasia baginda species complex.

Care Guide

  • Light: Bright, indirect light; avoid direct sun which can bleach or scorch the delicate silvery foliage — consistent filtered light best maintains the leaf texture and coloration
  • Temperature: Intermediate to warm; ideal temperatures 18–28°C (65–82°F); sensitive to cold — protect from drafts and temperatures below 15°C (59°F)
  • Watering: Allow the top inch of soil to dry between waterings; water thoroughly then allow to drain well; avoid waterlogging which can quickly cause root rot in this species
  • Humidity: High humidity essential, ideally 60–80%; reflects its humid Bornean rainforest origins — use a humidifier or enclosed cabinet for best results
  • Substrate: Very well-draining, airy mix; a blend of coco coir, perlite, and orchid bark is ideal — good root aeration is critical for this species

Alocasia baginda 'Silver Dragon' is a compact masterpiece of the plant world — its silvery, scale-textured leaves are unlike anything else in cultivation. A rare and highly collectible Bornean species from Ecuagenera, grown with care in Ecuador.
