Adenocalymma cladotrichum

Adenocalymma cladotrichum

Adenocalymma cladotrichum is a rare and spectacular intermediate to warm-growing tropical liana from the Bignoniaceae family — the same family as the celebrated Jacaranda and Trumpet Vine — native to the tropical forests of South America, including Ecuador. A new arrival to Ecuagenera’s collection, this climbing species is prized for the bold, trumpet-shaped flowers characteristic of the Bignoniaceae, produced in vivid clusters that create a breathtaking display when the plant is in full bloom. Its name — clado (branch) + trichum (hair) — refers to the fine hairs on its branches, a subtle botanical detail that distinguishes it from its relatives.

Features

  • Flowers: Bold, trumpet-shaped blooms in vivid color — the hallmark of the Bignoniaceae family, produced in striking clusters
  • Growth habit: Vigorous tropical liana (climbing vine); uses tendrils to ascend trees, trellises, or support structures
  • Family: Bignoniaceae — the family of Jacaranda, Trumpet Vine, and Tabebuia
  • Status: New arrival — a rare addition to Ecuagenera’s collection
  • Origin: South America, including Ecuador — intermediate to warm tropical forests

Care Guide

  • Light: Full sun to bright indirect light; abundant light encourages the most prolific flowering
  • Temperature: Intermediate to warm, between 16°C and 30°C (61°F – 86°F); protect from frost
  • Watering: Regular watering during active growth; allow the soil to partially dry between waterings once established
  • Humidity: Moderate to high; thrives in humid tropical conditions
  • Support: Provide a sturdy trellis, pergola, or support structure — this is a vigorous climber that rewards space and vertical room to grow

Adenocalymma cladotrichum is the kind of plant that transforms a garden or large indoor space — a vigorous tropical climber from the Bignoniaceae family that delivers spectacular trumpet-shaped flowers and the lush, exuberant growth of South America’s rainforest lianas. A rare new arrival from Ecuagenera, for growers who think big.
