Descripción

A compact, mat-forming epiphyte from the cloud forests of Ecuador, distinguished by its dense rosettes of thick, dark ovate leaves. Slender, wiry inflorescences rise above the foliage bearing intricate flowers with broadly winged lateral sepals and a small, mottled, hinged lip — the signature snap-trap mechanism of the genus Porroglossum.

  • Light: Moderate indirect light with 60–70% shade cloth; avoid any direct sun, which can stress the thick foliage.
  • Temperature: 58–72°F (14–22°C); an intermediate grower that benefits from consistent temperatures and a gentle nighttime drop.
  • Humidity: 70–85%; high, stable humidity is essential for vigorous growth and continuous blooming.
  • Watering: Keep the mount or mix evenly moist at all times; this genus does not tolerate drying out between waterings.

Additional Notes

This large-sized division is well-established with a full, dense mat of growth. Best cultivated mounted on cork bark or in a shallow basket with live or long-fiber sphagnum moss to maintain consistent moisture. A prized rarity for the serious miniature orchid collector. Ships bare-root in excellent condition.
