Información

Simira rubescens

A tropical tree with opposite, elliptic-lanceolate leaves featuring an acuminate apex, cuneate base, entire margins, and well-defined pinnate venation with parallel secondary veins. Interpetiolar stipules at each node are a hallmark of the family, and the upright, single-stemmed habit develops into a slender, elegant tree with a clean branching structure.

  • Light: Full sun to bright indirect light; young plants benefit from 20–40% shade cloth during establishment, while mature specimens thrive in full sun with good air circulation.
  • Temperature: 59–79°F (15–26°C); performs best as an intermediate grower with stable temperatures and protection from frost.
  • Humidity: 50–70%; adapts to a range of humidity levels typical of tropical montane environments.
  • Watering: Water deeply and allow the top layer of substrate to dry between waterings; established plants tolerate brief dry periods but perform best with consistent moisture during active growth.
  • Growth Habit: Upright, single-stemmed tropical tree that develops a slender canopy with age. A rare and botanically significant species from the cloud forests of South America, valued for its elegant form and ethnobotanical heritage.
