Descripción

This orchid is a very widespread species that grows as a large terrestrial or epiphyte throughout Central and South America. It develops tall, cane-like stems and pleated leaves, often reaching up to 1.5 meters (5 feet) tall. It is notably resilient, adapting to diverse altitudes.

  • Light: It needs bright, filtered light, similar to that for Cattleya. Provide partial shade and protect the leaves from harsh, direct midday sun.
  • Temperature: This highly adaptable species grows well in Hot to Warm conditions. Maintain a general range of 68-85°F (20-29°C), with night temperatures not dipping below 60°F (16°C).
  • Humidity: Requires high humidity (70% or more) to support its vigorous growth. Excellent air circulation is necessary to keep the tall foliage healthy and prevent spotting.
  • Watering: Water heavily and frequently to keep the chunky growing mix constantly moist. Do not allow the substrate to dry out fully, even during cooler periods.

Additional Notes

The flowers are showy (up to 10 cm across), ephemeral (lasting only one day), and produced successively.
