Porroglossum mordax

A miniature species from the cloud forests of Ecuador, producing multiple small flowers simultaneously on slender, upright inflorescences that bloom in succession over an extended period. The flowers display broad, spreading sepals with short lateral tails and a sensitive, hinged lip that snaps shut on contact — a remarkable pollination mechanism unique to the genus.

• Light: Low to medium indirect light with 70–80% shade cloth; avoid any direct sun exposure.
• Temperature: 50–65°F (10–18°C); a cool grower that requires stable cool conditions and constant air movement.
• Humidity: 80–90%; consistently high humidity is essential throughout the year.
• Watering: Keep the medium evenly moist at all times; never allow the roots to dry out.

Additional Notes

Best grown in fine sphagnum moss or a moisture-retentive mix in a small pot with excellent drainage and air circulation around the crown. Shipped bare root and well established.
