Mormodes rosea

This is a warm-growing, deciduous epiphyte native to the wet tropical biome of Brazil. It is one of the more unique orchids available, belonging to a genus known for its complex and non-symmetrical flowers. It sheds its leaves annually during its dormant period.

• Light: Bright, indirect light during the growing season is ideal. It can tolerate high light levels, but shield it from intense, direct midday sun.
• Temperature: A hot-to-warm growing species. It thrives during the active growth period with daytime temperatures of 68-86°F (20-30°C).
• Humidity: Moderate to high humidity (50% or more) is preferred. Good air movement is crucial, as this genus is sensitive to rot.
• Watering: Needs a strict wet/dry cycle because it is deciduous. Water and fertilize heavily during growth when new roots appear. Stop watering and fertilizing once leaves drop, giving minimal water to keep pseudobulbs from shriveling until new roots grow again.

Known for its unusual, asymmetrical flowers that often have a distinct twisted appearance, giving the genus its Greek name meaning "phantom or frightful object."
