Descripción

This striking species from Ecuador produces tubular flowers with prominent sepals that taper into elongated tails. The blooms emerge on upright stems that extend above the compact foliage, creating an elegant display with successive flowering throughout the growing season.

  • Light: Bright shade to filtered light conditions, avoiding direct sunlight.
  • Temperature: Cool grower: daytime temperatures of 55-72°F (13-22°C) with nighttime drops to 48-58°F (9-14°C). Consistent cool conditions with good day-night temperature differential promote healthy growth and flowering.
  • Humidity: Maintain 65-80% relative humidity with excellent air circulation around the plant. Use fans to ensure constant gentle air movement, preventing water accumulation on foliage.
  • Watering: Keep media consistently moist throughout the year without allowing it to become soggy. Reduce watering frequency slightly during winter months while maintaining high ambient humidity levels.

Additional Notes

Named after the Condor mountain range in Ecuador where it was discovered, this species thrives in cool, humid conditions typical of cloud forest environments. Best grown mounted on tree fern or cork bark, or in small pots with fine-grade bark mix or sphagnum moss for optimal drainage and aeration.
