DescripciΓ³n

This terrestrial orchid, native to the high-mountain ecosystems of the Andes, is distinguished by its robust stature and basal rosette growth with fleshy, lanceolate leaves. It is recognized for its dense, spike-like terminal inflorescence covered in numerous small white flowers, protected by hairy bracts that give it the woolly appearance characteristic of paramo plants.

  • Light: Bright but filtered light. Protect from intense direct sunlight to avoid overheating of its basal leaves.
  • Temperature: 45-70Β°F (7-21Β°C). Requires cool to intermediate conditions, mimicking high-altitude climates; it is essential to avoid constant warm temperatures and provide cool nights.
  • Humidity: High levels, ideally between 70-80%. Originating from cloud forests and humid paramos, it needs a moisture-saturated atmosphere and constant air circulation to thrive.
  • Watering: Keep the substrate uniformly moist but with excellent drainage. Do not allow the medium to dry out completely, as its fleshy roots need constant hydration without becoming waterlogged.

Additional notes

It is recommended to use aged water or rainwater to avoid mineral buildup and to employ an airy organic substrate that retains moisture while allowing the roots to breathe properly.
