Descripción

A large, robust reed-stem orchid endemic to the high-elevation slopes of Ecuador, producing massive, branched pendant panicles densely packed with hundreds of small, star-shaped flowers. The sheer floral volume and cascading inflorescence structure make it one of the most spectacular Epidendrum species in cultivation.

  • Light: Bright indirect light with 40–60% shade cloth; tolerates brief morning sun but avoid harsh midday exposure.
  • Temperature: 46–65°F (8–18°C); a cool grower that requires the cold nights characteristic of high Andean elevations to thrive and bloom reliably.
  • Humidity: 75–90%; high humidity is essential to support the vigorous growth and large inflorescences this species produces.
  • Watering: Water thoroughly and allow the substrate to approach dryness between waterings; never allow roots to sit in standing water.

Additional Notes

A species endemic to the cloud forests and high-elevation slopes of Ecuador, named after the Atacazo volcano near Quito. Best grown in a large pot or bed with a well-draining bark-based mix and excellent air circulation. Ships bare root, well-established.
