DescripciΓ³n

This remarkable epiphytic orchid is celebrated for its extraordinary bucket-shaped flowers and fascinating pollination mechanism that temporarily traps euglossine bees. Native to Central and South America, it produces some of the most architecturally complex blooms in the orchid family.

  • Light: Bright, filtered light similar to tropical canopy conditions. Avoid direct sunlight. East or west-facing windows with sheer curtains, or 50-70% shade cloth in greenhouses.
  • Temperature: Warm days of 75-85Β°F (24-29Β°C) and cooler nights of 55-65Β°F (13-18Β°C). Good air circulation essential.
  • Humidity: Maintain 70-85% using humidifiers, humidity trays, or frequent misting. Ensure good air movement to prevent fungal issues.
  • Watering: Keep consistently moist during active growth, watering when top inch of medium begins to dry. Reduce slightly in winter but never allow to completely dry out. Ensure excellent drainage.

Additional Notes:

Produces pendulous inflorescences with large flowers reaching 15 cm across in shades of yellow or cream tones with intricate spotting. Requires mounting on hanging or slat baskets to accommodate downward-growing flower spikes.
