Descripción

Cattleya maxima is a classic and highly revered species. The 'tall' form refers to plants that typically produce longer, more substantial pseudobulbs than the standard variety. It is cherished for its spectacular display of blooms, which feature a notably high flower count.

  • Light: Bright, filtered light is ideal, though this plant can tolerate some direct sun. Protect it from the hottest midday sun, which can burn the leaves.
  • Temperature: This is an intermediate-to-warm growing species. It thrives in daytime temperatures of 68-86°F (20-30°C). It appreciates a distinct temperature drop at night.
  • Humidity: Moderate to high humidity (50-70%) is best. Ensure excellent air circulation at all times, as stagnant, humid air is a common cause of fungal issues.
  • Watering: This species requires a distinct seasonal wet/dry cycle to bloom reliably. Water heavily and regularly during the active growth period. Once the pseudobulbs mature, reduce watering significantly, allowing the roots to dry out completely before a light watering.

Additional Notes

Known for producing an impressive number of flowers (often 5 to 15) on a single stem. The individual blooms are large, typically rose-purple to lavender, and sometimes pure white (alba forms).
