Descripción

This miniature, tufted epiphyte, is found in Andean cloud forests at high elevations, typically between 2000 and 3200 meters. It is known for its congested growth habit, small elliptic leaves, and its distinctive, relatively large single flowers that are produced successively.

  • Light: Requires low to medium, diffuse light. It must be strictly protected from direct sun exposure, thriving best in deep shade or under heavily filtered light.
  • Temperature: A cool-growing species. It requires a cool, consistent environment with temperatures between 55-75°F (13-24°C). Cool night temperatures are essential for health and reliable flowering.
  • Humidity: Extremely high humidity is critical, ideally 80% to 100%, to replicate its cloud forest habitat. Constant, gentle air movement is mandatory to prevent fungal infections.
  • Watering: Water frequently and constantly throughout the year; the root system must never be allowed to dry out. It is best grown mounted or in small pots with sphagnum moss inside a terrarium for continuous moisture.

Additional Notes

This is a miniature plant, typically forming dense clumps. It produces solitary, successive flowers on a short inflorescence that emerges from the base of the leaf. The blooms are noted for being relatively large compared to the plant.
