Descripción

A rare Ecuadorian ericaceous shrub prized for its architectural branching habit and glossy, narrow lanceolate leaves with distinctively revolute margins that curl elegantly along each stem. As the plant matures, it produces pendant tubular flowers that attract hummingbirds in its native cloud forest habitat, making it a coveted specimen for serious ericad collectors.

  • Light: Moderate to bright indirect light with 40–60% shade cloth; tolerates brief morning sun but avoid harsh midday exposure.
  • Temperature: Cool to intermediate grower. Daytime 60–72°F (15–22°C), nighttime 50–60°F (10–15°C); cool temperatures are essential for long-term health and blooming.
  • Humidity: 70–85%; consistent high humidity with good air circulation is essential to prevent fungal issues.
  • Watering: Keep the substrate evenly moist; never allow roots to dry out completely, as the fine root system is sensitive to desiccation.

Additional Notes

Native to Ecuador at mid to high elevations in cloud forest habitats; best grown in a well-draining, acidic epiphytic mix of fine bark and sphagnum moss or mounted on tree fern.
