Descripción

Elaphoglossum paleaceum is an epiphytic or lithophytic fern, its most distinguishing feature is the dense covering of amber-colored, reflective scales on the fronds, which help protect the plant from sun damage and retain moisture.

  • Light: Medium to bright, indirect light. Can handle brighter conditions than most ferns, but avoid direct sun.
  • Temperature: Intermediate to warm. Keep in the range of 68-86°F (20-30°C). It can tolerate cooler nights, as it is found in high-altitude environments.
  • Humidity: High humidity is essential. Maintain 60% or higher relative humidity. It is best suited for humid enclosures like terrariums.
  • Watering: Keep the growing medium consistently moist, but ensure it has excellent drainage. Use an open, airy mix or grow it mounted, as its epiphytic nature makes it sensitive to stagnant moisture.

Additional Notes

As a fern, it does not flower but reproduces via spores. The fertile fronds are typically different from the sterile ones and bear the spore-producing structures across their entire undersurface, a characteristic known as acrostichoid sori.
