Información

Aechmea mertensii

A resilient epiphyte native to the tropical forests of South America, characterized by a tight, architectural rosette of stiff, spiny-edged leaves. It produces an erect, sturdy inflorescence that rises from the center, showcasing a dense head of colorful bracts that offer a long-lasting and exotic structural display.

  • Light: Bright indirect light is ideal; protection from intense, direct midday sun is necessary to prevent leaf scorching.
  • Temperature: 65–85°F (18–29°C); thrives in warm, stable environments and should be protected from cold drafts or frost.
  • Humidity: 60–80%; regular misting or placement in a naturally humid environment promotes healthy growth and foliage luster.
  • Watering: Fill the central cup or "tank" with fresh, clean water, ensuring it is refreshed periodically; keep the potting medium slightly moist but never waterlogged.

Additional Notes

This species is perfectly suited for mounting on bark or wood to highlight its natural epiphytic habit, though it also performs well in well-draining, coarse bromeliad substrates. Ships bare root, well established, and ready to rehydrate in a temperate, intermediate environment before being permanently potted or mounted.
