Selaginella kerstingii

A striking African spikemoss with finely textured, fern-like foliage that forms dense, cascading mats of rich green growth. Exceptionally well suited for terrariums and vivarium setups, it thrives in the warm, humid conditions that many tropical orchids and amphibians require, making it a versatile and elegant companion plant.

• Light: Low to moderate indirect light; avoid direct sun, which causes bleaching and desiccation of the delicate foliage.
• Temperature: Warm grower. Daytime 68–82°F (20–28°C), nighttime 60–68°F (15–20°C); avoid cold drafts or temperatures below 55°F (13°C).
• Humidity: 70–90%; thrives in consistently high humidity and is an excellent choice for closed or semi-closed terrariums.
• Watering: Keep the substrate evenly moist at all times; never allow it to dry out completely.

Additional Notes

Native to tropical West Africa in humid lowland and montane forest habitats; best grown in a peat-based or sphagnum moss substrate with good moisture retention.
