A compact, caespitose epiphyte from Andean cloud forests, bearing dense, brush-like clusters of tiny flowers with a strongly hooded dorsal sepal, concave connate lateral sepals, and highly reduced petals. The successive inflorescences emerge directly from the base of the erect, lanceolate leaves, creating a characteristic bristling display that gives this species its name.
-
Light: Bright indirect light with 50–70% shade cloth; avoid direct sun, which can scorch the thin foliage.
-
Temperature: 50–68°F (10–20°C); a Cool to Intermediate grower. Tolerates brief dips to 45°F (7°C) if kept dry.
-
Humidity: 70–90%; mist regularly or place on a humidity tray to maintain consistent moisture around the roots.
-
Watering: Water frequently but allow the mount or medium to approach dryness between waterings; never allow roots to remain waterlogged.
