Information

Philodendron rubrocinctum red

Philodendron rubrocinctum 'Red'

Philodendron rubrocinctum 'Red' is the most intensely colored form of this already striking intermediate to warm-growing aroid species from the tropical forests of Ecuador and Colombia. While the standard rubrocinctum is celebrated for its reddish petioles and flushed new growth, the 'Red' form takes this coloration to another level — with deeper, more saturated red tones on the petioles, cataphylls, and emerging leaves that create a truly spectacular contrast against the rich, mature deep green foliage. For collectors who want the boldest expression of this species, this is the one.

Features

  • Color: Intensified deep red coloration on petioles, cataphylls, and new growth — more vivid than the standard form
  • Foliage: Large, rich deep green mature leaves that contrast dramatically with the red new growth
  • Plant size: 35–45 cm — a well-established specimen already displaying the 'Red' form's signature coloration
  • Growth habit: Hemiepiphytic climber; thrives on a moss pole or support structure as it matures
  • Origin: Ecuador and Colombia — intermediate to warm tropical forests

Care Guide

  • Light: Moderate to bright indirect light; good light intensity helps maintain and enhance the vivid red coloration
  • Temperature: Intermediate to warm, between 16°C and 28°C (61°F – 82°F)
  • Watering: Keep evenly moist; allow the top inch of soil to dry between waterings
  • Humidity: High, 65–80%; thrives in humid tropical conditions
  • Soil: Rich, chunky aroid mix with excellent drainage; provide a moss pole for climbing support

If the standard Philodendron rubrocinctum turns heads, the 'Red' form stops people in their tracks. Each new leaf emerges in a blaze of deep red before slowly maturing to rich green — a cycle of color that never gets old. This is the boldest, most dramatic expression of one of Ecuador’s most exciting aroid species.
