A delightful Oncidium hybrid resulting from the cross between Onc. Frolicked and Onc. Lovely Apple, inheriting the prolific branching spray habit and cheerful, dancing blooms that define the best of the Oncidium alliance. Sami Wayta — meaning "beautiful flower" in Quechua — lives up to its name with an abundance of long-lasting flowers on arching, multi-branched spikes.
-
Light: Bright, indirect light under 40–50% shade cloth; more light than many orchids encourages robust flowering, but avoid direct midday sun.
-
Temperature: Intermediate grower. Daytime 65–78°F (18–26°C), nighttime lows of 55–60°F (13–15°C); a noticeable day-night differential is key to initiating bloom spikes.
-
Humidity: Prefers 55–75% relative humidity; humidity trays or a humidifier work well alongside good air circulation to prevent fungal issues.
-
Watering: Water thoroughly and allow the mix to approach dryness before watering again; pseudobulbs should remain plump — shriveling indicates insufficient moisture.
Additional Notes
Best grown in a well-draining medium bark mix or mounted on cork bark; repot every 2 years or when the mix degrades, ideally just after flowering when new root growth begins.
