This enigmatic species produces mysterious and captivating flowers with unique characteristics that make it a prized specimen for serious collectors of rare Masdevallia species.

  • Light: Bright indirect light to partial shade; avoid direct sunlight. East-facing windows or shaded greenhouse conditions are ideal.
  • Temperature: Daytime 61-75°F (16-24°C), nighttime 52-61°F (11-16°C).
  • Humidity: 70-85% with excellent air circulation.
  • Watering: Keep media consistently moist. Water frequently during active growth, reducing slightly in cooler months without allowing complete drying.

Additional Notes

Native to Ecuador, this species lives up to its name (aenigma meaning enigma) with its mysterious and distinctive flower characteristics. It grows in cloud forests at intermediate elevations. Best grown mounted or in small pots with fine bark mix or sphagnum moss.
