Huntleya meleagris

Huntleya meleagris is a distinctive orchid species prized for its dramatic flowers and elegant, fan-shaped foliage. Unlike orchids with prominent pseudobulbs, it stores little water, so it rewards attentive growers who can provide steady moisture and a humid, sheltered environment.

Care Guide

• Light: Provide low to medium filtered light, avoiding direct midday sun that can scorch the foliage.
• Water: Keep the root zone consistently lightly moist throughout the year. Water thoroughly, allow excess water to drain, and do not permit the medium to become completely dry.
• Humidity: Maintain high humidity with gentle, continuous air movement to reduce stagnant conditions.
• Temperature: Grow in intermediate to warm conditions with stable temperatures and protection from cold drafts or excessive heat.
• Growing medium: Use a fine, airy orchid mix that retains moisture without becoming dense or waterlogged. Repot before the medium breaks down, taking care with the roots.

With soft filtered light, dependable moisture, high humidity, and fresh moving air, Huntleya meleagris can become a refined centerpiece in a carefully maintained orchid collection.
