To successfully cultivate Ceratostema zamorana and other similar Ceratostema species, it's crucial to replicate their native conditions while also considering general best practices:

  • Light: Provide bright, indirect light. Filtered sunlight is ideal, as too much direct exposure can harm the plant.
  • Temperature: Given its lower elevation range, Ceratostema zamorana thrives in intermediate to warm temperatures, ideally with daytime highs between 20-28°C (68-82°F) and slightly cooler nights, perhaps around 15-20°C (59-68°F).
  • Humidity: High humidity is essential, ideally 60-80% or more. This helps prevent desiccation, especially in an epiphytic plant. Use a humidifier, pebble trays, or grow in an enclosed space to maintain adequate moisture in the air.
  • Watering: Keep the potting medium consistently moist but ensure excellent drainage. Water thoroughly when the top layer feels slightly dry, allowing all excess water to escape.
  • Ventilation: Crucial for preventing fungal and bacterial diseases, especially in humid environments. Ensure excellent air circulation around the plant.

This species is currently endemic to the Zamora region of Ecuador, representing the incredible biodiversity of this cloud forest ecosystem.

Features striking tubular flowers in shades of magenta to pale purple, offering a vivid contrast to its foliage.
