Beschreibung

This miniature, intermediate-growing epiphyte is native to New Guinea, it has a very short rhizome and small, subglobose pseudobulbs that bear a single, small apical leaf. This tiny species is best grown mounted or in small pots that allow for quick drainage.

  • Light: Requires bright, filtered light. Provide a similar light level to Phalaenopsis or a little brighter, avoiding direct sun that can burn the minuscule leaves.
  • Temperature: Classified as an intermediate-growing species. Maintain daytime temperatures between 68-80°F (20-27°C), with a necessary decrease in temperature at night to promote flowering and vigorous growth.
  • Humidity: High humidity is crucial, ideally 60% or higher. Excellent air circulation must be provided to prevent stagnant, disease-prone conditions.
  • Watering: Water frequently to keep the medium constantly moist, as the fine root system of Bulbophyllum species should not dry out completely. Mounted plants may require daily misting.

Additional Notes

This orchid produces small, single flowers (about 1.5 cm long) that are yellow with red-brown stripes. The name odontopetalum refers to the serrated or toothed margins of the petals, a key distinguishing feature of the flower structure.
