Phragmipedium Diana Salazar (Primary Hybrid)

This stunning slipper orchid hybrid, is a primary cross between the species Phragmipedium klotzschianum and the magnificent Phragmipedium caudatum. This hybrid masterfully combines the delicate, elongated form and green-yellow coloration of P. klotzschianum with the exceptionally long petals and dramatic form of P. caudatum. The result is a highly sought-after orchid with a captivating and powerful floral display.

  • Light: Prefers moderate, indirect light. Avoid direct sun, especially during the midday hours, as this can easily scorch the leaves. A bright, east-facing window or a location with filtered light is often ideal for this type of orchid.
  • Temperature: Thrives in intermediate temperatures. Ideal daytime temperatures should range between 18-24°C (65-75°F), with a slight drop at night to 13-18°C (55-65°F). This temperature range helps promote healthy growth and flowering.
  • Humidity: Requires high humidity, ideally between 60-80%. Excellent air circulation is still essential to prevent fungal issues, especially in humid conditions.
  • Watering: This hybrid, like its parents, demands consistent moisture. The potting medium should never be allowed to dry out completely. Water thoroughly and frequently, making sure the pot has good drainage to avoid waterlogged roots.

Additional Notes

  • Floral Characteristics: The flowers of Phragmipedium Diana Salazar are famous for their large size and striking blend of colors. The prominent, pouch-like lip is a vibrant, uniform shade of green-yellow, often with a striking network of fine veining. The long, "tail-like" petals extend gracefully outwards and can have a distinctive twist, showing the strong influence of P. caudatum. This orchid can produce multiple flowers sequentially on a single stem, providing an extended bloom period.
