Beschreibung

A truly extraordinary and sculptural species from the cloud forests of South America, bearing solitary flowers on slender, pendant scapes that nod gracefully below the foliage. The bloom is unlike almost anything else in the Maxillaria alliance — with elongated, reflexed, translucent-textured tepals swept dramatically backward, and a deeply hooded, helmet-shaped lip enclosing a prominent, exposed column — a masterpiece of floral architecture that captivates even the most experienced collector.

  • Light: Bright indirect light with 50–65% shade cloth; avoid direct sun, which can stress the soft, upright foliage.
  • Temperature: 50–68°F (10–20°C); a cool grower that thrives with good temperature drops at night and excellent air circulation.
  • Humidity: 70–85%; high humidity is essential for this cool-growing species; pair with strong airflow to prevent fungal issues.
  • Watering: Water thoroughly and allow the mix to partially dry between waterings; avoid prolonged saturation at the root zone.

Additional Notes

Best grown in a well-draining bark or sphagnum mix in a small pot, or mounted to allow the pendant scapes to hang freely. A rare collector's gem prized for its utterly unique floral architecture. Shipped bare root in well-established condition.
