Bulbophyllum steyermarkii

A cool-growing epiphyte from the highland tepuis and cloud forests of South America, producing dense, robust spike-like inflorescences with numerous small flowers tightly packed among large, papery bracts. The ovate, spotted sepals peek between the bracts, giving the inflorescence a distinctive, architecturally compact appearance.

• Light: Bright indirect light with 50–60% shade cloth; avoid direct sun to protect the foliage in cool, humid conditions.
• Temperature: 50–68°F (10–20°C); a cool grower that requires consistently cool temperatures. Minimum tolerance around 45°F (7°C).
• Humidity: 75–90%; high humidity is essential — ensure strong air movement to prevent fungal issues in cool conditions.
• Watering: Keep roots consistently moist; water frequently with excellent drainage, avoiding any prolonged dryness.

Additional Notes

Best grown mounted on cork or tree fern, or in a small basket with fine sphagnum moss to maintain moisture. Ships bare root, well established.
