Beschreibung

Commonly called the Fruit-fly Orchid, this striking species is native to Queensland and New Guinea, where it grows as an epiphyte or lithophyte. It forms creeping clumps with widely spaced pseudobulbs, each topped with a single, thick, fleshy leaf.

  • Light: Bright, filtered light. Place near an east window or set back from bright south/west windows. Avoid direct midday sun which will scorch leaves.
  • Temperature: 60-90°F (15-32°C). Benefits from a 10°F (6°C) nighttime drop to encourage blooming. Keep above 58°F (14°C).
  • Humidity: High (60% ideal). Ensure excellent air circulation to prevent fungal issues.
  • Watering: Keep evenly moist. Water as medium approaches dryness. If mounted, requires daily watering or misting.

Additional Notes:

Produces unique, upward-facing flowers 1-1.5" wide that are cream to creamy yellow with red or purple spots. Named for its sweet, fruity fragrance that attracts male fruit flies for pollination. Features a delicately hinged, mobile lip. Due to its creeping habit, best grown mounted on cork bark or in shallow containers.
