Cyrtochilum volubile

A spectacular cool-growing epiphytic orchid from the cloud forests of South America, producing long, twining inflorescences with numerous flowers. The sepals and petals are broadly undulate with contrasting margins, and the rounded labellum features a prominent golden callus at the base — a refined floral structure that makes this one of the most ornamental species in the genus.

• Light: Bright indirect light with 40–60% shade cloth; tolerates some morning sun, which encourages strong inflorescence development.
• Temperature: 48–68°F (9–20°C); a cool grower that requires consistently mild temperatures and excellent air circulation — avoid heat, which inhibits blooming.
• Humidity: 70–90%; high humidity is essential to support the long inflorescences and healthy pseudobulb development.
• Watering: Water thoroughly and allow the medium to dry slightly between waterings; never allow roots to sit in standing water.

Additional Notes

Cyrtochilum volubile produces twining inflorescences that can reach considerable length and benefit from a support or trellis. Best grown in a well-draining bark-based mix with strong air movement, shipped bare root in well-established condition.
