Information

Aspasia lunata

Aspasia lunata is a delightful epiphytic orchid from the warm forests of Brazil, first described by Lindley in 1836. A close relative of Aspasia epidendroides, this species is prized for its graceful, star-shaped flowers with a distinctive crescent-marked lip — the "lunata" in its name a nod to the moon-like markings that give the bloom its unique character. Compact, warm-growing, and appreciative of good air movement, it is an easy and rewarding species that fits comfortably into any intermediate to warm orchid collection.

Care Guide

  • Light: Bright, indirect light. It can tolerate gentle morning or late afternoon sun, but protect it from intense midday exposure.
  • Temperature: Warm to intermediate. Daytime temperatures of 20–30°C (68–86°F) with nights staying above 15°C (59°F) are ideal for this species.
  • Humidity: High humidity of 60–80% is preferred. A humidifier, misting, or pebble tray will help maintain the warm, humid conditions it loves.
  • Watering: Water generously during active growth, allowing the substrate to dry slightly between waterings. Reduce frequency during winter months.
  • Air circulation: Good airflow around the roots and foliage is important — mount it or grow it in a basket for best results.

Charming, compact, and easy to please, Aspasia lunata is a lovely addition to any warm orchid collection — grown with care at Ecuagenera and ready to bring a touch of Brazilian forest beauty to your growing space.
