Information

Description

Description

A captivating miniature epiphyte from the cloud forests of South America, forming dense rosettes of narrow, ciliate leaves. The slender, erect inflorescences rise well above the foliage, each bearing flowers with elongated, tail-like sepals and a small, dark, hinged lip — a remarkable pollination mechanism unique to the genus Porroglossum.

  • Light: Moderate indirect light with 60–70% shade cloth; avoid any direct sun exposure, which can stress the fine foliage.
  • Temperature: 58–72°F (14–22°C); an intermediate grower that appreciates consistent temperatures with a slight nighttime drop.
  • Humidity: 70–85%; high, stable humidity is essential for healthy growth and continuous blooming.
  • Watering: Keep the mount or mix evenly moist at all times; this genus does not tolerate drying out between waterings.

Additional Notes

This large-sized division is well-established and actively growing. Best cultivated mounted on cork bark or in a shallow basket with live or long-fiber sphagnum moss to maintain consistent moisture. An exceptional rarity for the serious collector. Ships bare-root in excellent condition.
