Description

Description

A rare primary hybrid from the cross between Onc. dracoceps and Onc. zelenkoanum, uniting two distinctive Andean species to produce a plant of exceptional botanical interest and ornamental appeal. The close species parentage results in flowers that retain much of the wild character of both parents, with the vigor and adaptability of a first-generation hybrid.

  • Light: Bright, indirect light under 40–50% shade cloth; consistent exposure supports strong pseudobulb development and reliable spike production.
  • Temperature: Intermediate grower. Daytime 65–78°F (18–26°C), nighttime lows of 55–60°F (13–15°C); a clear day-night differential encourages blooming.
  • Humidity: Prefers 60–75% relative humidity; humidity trays or a humidifier paired with good air circulation keep foliage and roots in optimal condition.
  • Watering: Water thoroughly and allow the mix to approach dryness before the next watering; pseudobulbs should remain firm and plump at all times.

Additional Notes

Onc. dracoceps and Onc. zelenkoanum are both native to Andean cloud forests of South America at mid to high elevations. Best grown in a well-draining medium bark mix; repot every 2 years when the substrate begins to decompose.
