Information

Description

Description

A charming miniature species with vivid, richly colored flowers featuring the elongated sepaline tails characteristic of the genus, producing successive blooms from slender upright inflorescences that rise above compact, tufted foliage.

  • Light: Grow under 50–70% shade cloth; direct sun causes rapid leaf burn and should be avoided at all times.
  • Temperature: Intermediate grower. Daytime 63–75°F (17–24°C), nights 54–61°F (12–16°C). A moderate day-night differential supports healthy growth and flowering.
  • Humidity: Requires 75–90% relative humidity; humidity trays, a humidifier, or terrarium culture with adequate air movement all work well.
  • Watering: Keep consistently moist without waterlogging; mounted plants need more frequent watering, and both benefit from a slight reduction during the coolest months.

Additional Notes

Native to Ecuador at elevations of 1,000–2,000 meters, named in honor of Ingrid de Portilla. Best cultivated in small pots with fine bark or sphagnum moss, or mounted on cork bark or tree fern to accommodate its compact root system.
