This is an epiphytic orchid native to the cloud forests of Colombia and Ecuador, found at elevations between 1,400 and 2,450 meters. This natural form of the type species of the genus Dracula was described by the Ecuagenera research team.
Flowers are among the largest in the genus, featuring large, densely hairy sepals that end in long tails, often spotted red or brown on a creamy background. The form klisiocheilos is specifically distinguished by its involute lip morphology, which forms a pouch.
