Description

Description

A striking epiphytic orchid native to New Guinea and the Solomon Islands, Den. lawesii produces dense, pendant clusters of small tubular flowers at the apex of slender cane-like stems with lanceolate leaves. The vivid two-toned floral display — deep red at the base transitioning to bright yellow-orange tips — makes this species one of the most visually arresting in the genus.

  • Light: Bright indirect light with 40–50% shade cloth; good light levels encourage prolific flowering.
  • Temperature: 58–72°F (14–22°C); an intermediate grower that benefits from a distinct cool, dry rest period after the canes mature to trigger blooming.
  • Humidity: 70–85%; high humidity is essential, especially during active growth; reduce slightly during the dry rest period.
  • Watering: Water freely during active growth; reduce watering significantly once canes are mature to initiate the rest period that triggers flowering.

Additional Notes

Best grown in a small basket or mounted to allow the pendant canes to hang freely. Ships bare root and well-established — roots are healthy and ready to adapt quickly to your growing conditions.
