Information

Description

Description

A bold and architecturally striking species from the cloud forests of Ecuador, forming tall, upright cane-like stems with distichous leaves arranged in a ladder-like pattern along the stem. Clusters of star-shaped flowers emerge at multiple nodes simultaneously in a staggered, scaliform arrangement — an entirely atypical growth and blooming habit for the genus that makes this species a true conversation piece.

  • Light: Bright indirect light with 40–60% shade cloth; avoid direct sun, which can scorch the broad, distichous foliage.
  • Temperature: 61–82°F (16–28°C); a warm grower that thrives in stable, humid conditions year-round.
  • Humidity: 65–85%; consistent humidity with good airflow is essential for healthy stem and root development.
  • Watering: Water thoroughly and allow the mix to partially dry between waterings; avoid prolonged saturation at the root zone.

Additional Notes

Best grown in a well-draining bark-based mix in a tall pot to support its upright, cane-like stems. A standout collector's species prized for its unique scaliform blooming habit and bold architectural presence. Shipped bare root in well-established condition.
