Description

This cool-growing miniature orchid is highly regarded for its flat, Pansy-like white flowers that feature a dramatic "waterfall" pattern of dark magenta and gold on the lip. Reaching only about 8 inches in height, it produces fragrant blooms approximately 1.5 inches across, making it a compact and aromatically pleasing addition to any collections.

  • Light: Partial shade or filtered light. It requires lower light levels than many other orchids; direct sun will quickly bleach or burn the thin, delicate foliage.
  • Temperature: 50-70°F (10-21°C). This species thrives in cool to cold conditions and is highly sensitive to heat; prolonged exposure to temperatures above 80°F (27°C) can lead to rapid decline.
  • Humidity: High levels, ideally between 60-80%. Consistent moisture in the air is vital to prevent "accordion growth" (wrinkled leaves) and to support the thin, moisture-sensitive root system.
  • Watering: Keep the medium consistently moist but not saturated. Do not allow the substrate to dry out completely between waterings, as the plant lacks substantial pseudobulbs for water storage and reacts poorly to drought.

Additional notes

It is best grown in a fine-grade, moisture-retentive mix like high-quality sphagnum moss or small-grade Orchiata bark to maintain the steady hydration it requires.
